    Good advice there. Watching thoughts and emotions like that is an excellent meditation to develop. You don't have to do anything but practice this kind of awareness, without expecting anything to happen. Maybe small steps, as he says, can help if you have a particular problem, but meditation is best when practiced for its own sake.
