    Hello Aloka,
Life has been extremely difficult for me lately. My partner is sick and he had to be hospitalized. And I have been feeling very overwhelmed. Taking things one day at a time. hope all is well with you.

    Regards,
    Gene

Trying to stay positive in a difficult time globally, and when different family members and friends are going through health issues. I try to keep a balance between my studies, working in the garden and doing odd jobs around the house. It helps to remind myself that I am retired and have the time to do stuff that I missed out on during my working life. I enjoyed teaching, but it consumed a lot of my time and energy, as making a living so often does. Although I am still shielding for Covid, I try to keep fit with my exercise bike (I've got to know much of scenic Colorado via a guy on YouTube who does cycling videos) to make up for not going out much. I went for a cottage garden look in the garden this year so we can sit out amongst the flowers that I grew from seed, transplanted into containers so I can rotate them into position when they look their best.

    Dear Gene,

I'm so sorry that your partner is sick and that you're finding things difficult, I'm sending kind thoughts and all my good wishes to you both. I think just taking things one day at a time is the best approach - and pausing for a moment and gently being aware of one's breath can be useful.

    Hi, Gene.

"Birth, aging, disease & death."..is how Buddha defined this entire tangled ball of suffering we call samsara. Understanding and acceptance of this teaching seems to help.

Another way I have heard this put is: "Pain" is mandatory, but suffering is optional.

    Hang in there, Buddy.
