An alternative to New Years Resolutions.

I thought I might suggest an idea for people to try out. Rather then make a list of resolutions every New Year for the last few years I tended to do something slightly different.
What I do is split the entire year into 52 weekly segments, so Jan 1st-7th is week one, 8th-14th is week two, 15th-21st is week three etc, and then I try and do something different each week.
It is mostly something simple, like a job around the house, a single product that I want to buy or a particular place I want to visit. I mark each thing off on a calendar.
I find it actually works quite well! Last year looking at the list I managed to do 48 out of the 52 weekly things, which is 92%!

    Fenchurch,

This seems like a much more doable thing to strive for than one singular resolution. I like it! I am not a big believer in resolutions at the beginning of the year myself. I think every morning when I wake up is a good time to make a new resolution for that day because that day is most certainly a gift and it is the only one I am guaranteed.

I have decided this year to chose a "topic" word for my year. I actually have two because I decided I make the "rules" and can do what I want!

I have chosen BALANCE and CLARITY as I feel the two go together. I believe I require balance in my life (in all areas) to achieve some clarity and vice versa.

Anyways...rambling on....I just wanted to let you know I like your idea. Smaller goals over a shorter period of time. Much more attainable! Good luck!

Hi Fenchurch. It seems like a good way to get into mindfulness practice. Small steps first.
