Yes Esho, I like to think that it is the basis of all Buddhist schools, the umbrella concept for Theravada Buddhism is Sila, Samadhi, Panna - Ethics, Meditation and wisdom.
I believe that you can not have any of those in sufficient quantity to see the path unless you have a reasonable amount of self-confidence, this comes from Metta for yourself and others, if you are aversive toward yourself, it is difficult to have equanimous intimacy in meditation
In vipassana meditation, it is recommended that you balance the five faculties of Faith/ conviction with Wisdom. Concentration with energy and mindfulness as the arbiter, without considering it an act of intimate love for yourself there is little equanimity and equanimity is the ground for clear seeing
