    Uposatha Observance Days

    Hello friends,

I will observe Uposatha days starting this month. Bhikkhu Bodhi's "In the Buddha's Words", page 153, tells us about four days of observance. These are the full moon, the new moon, and the two half moons and at Access to Insight is told just two days of observance; full moon and new moon and Suttas mention full moon as the observance day.

    I have three questions:

How many days are for observance?

Is there any sutta which tells us how many days are for observance? and How the Uposatha was established?

Personally I will observe the four days -full moon, new moon and the two half moons- but I am curious about how many days are Uposatha days.

    Thanks

    Hi Esho,

I don't know anything about the origins of Uposatha, but these links might be helpful:
