Sean Carroll is, in my view, an excellent communicator.

Here is a recent talk given by him.

    Any thoughts about the video?

The information under the video at YouTube says:

How do life and meaning emerge from physical stuff? Pioneering physicist and humanist Sean Carroll argues that the universe is made of stories, not atoms.

....and for the benefit of anyone who might want to watch it - it lasts for 32 minutes.

An interesting talk. He articulated well that the universe is in a transition state from simplicity back to simplicity, and we just happen to be in a state where complexity is allowed by this transition, explained by entropy. We are a by-product of this process which allows things to exist until the universe becomes simple again. At this point there will be a state of no-thingness. Presumably not nothingness as the radiation will continue to exist in a never ending heat sink. I think Roger Penrose has some ideas about what might happen if everything reaches absolute zero, becoming absolutely uniform:

The summary at the end, from about the 30-minute point, appeals to me. (1) We're all going to die, (2) The universe is very big and we are an insignificantly small part of it, (3) We are using our curiosity to investigate the universe all around us.

It put me in mind of the Roger Whittaker song Why when he sings "Will the last word ever spoken be Why?" It's a downbeat song but I prefer to think that the last word will be "Why?" but spoken in a sense of wonder and thanks for the opportunity to ask the question of the universe as a separate, conscious being.
