    New to Buddhism

    Hello,

I have been interested in all world religions for many years and studied them as an intellectual pursuit. In terms of participation I was raised Presbyterian but also have attended many other Protestant and Catholic services. For about 2 years in my early 20s I participated in Hinduism. However, through my studies I discovered that were I ever to actually commit to a spiritual path it would most likely be Zen Buddhism. Well, 40 years later I'm committing.

Recently I was visiting a dear friend in OR. He had become a Lay Buddhist and is active in the Eugene, OR priory. I attended with him twice weekly for a month and felt at home. From that experience I decided to pursue my own personal path in Zen Buddhist practice. Unfortunately, the closest priory to me is 90 miles away and travelling 180 miles RT is something I cannot do on a regular basis. Therefore, I have sought to find a "home" online.

I am not sure what I have to offer in terms of participation since I feel I'm starting almost from scratch. At this point I'm reading books and talking regularly with my friend in OR. I look forward to experiencing this site as part of my learning experience.

    Sincerely,
ZoeAyn (but ok to shorten that to Zoe)

Thank you very much for introducing yourself, I hope you'll like it here.

This brief outline of Buddhism might be helpful to you in some way.

Hey Zoe, I am also in Oregon, about 3 hours from Eugene. Not a Zen practitioner, however. Welcome to BWB!
