Using the quote facility

I really should know this! Maybe its explained somewhere else?

Please, how do I isolate a paragraph from a long post?

Tried a few things, but still mess up; some really long posts mean isolating para hels a lot.

It's not clear from your question what you want to do with a paragraph once you have isolated it, and I'm going to guess that you are asking about the procedure to follow after you have clicked on "Reply with Quote"

Reply with Quote sets up a whole post to be quoted inside the post that you are going to write. There are plenty of times when you don't want to quote the whole post. Instead you want to put emphasis on a part of some other post, by quoting a smaller part of it.

After you have clicked on Reply with Quote, highlight the lines you don't want, and press the "Delete" button. The highlighted text will go away. You may need to do this more than once, to selectively remove parts before and after the words you want to keep.

When highlighting and deleting, be careful to keep all the [QUOTE... ] codes, all that stuff in square brackets. If you accidentally lose some of the square bracket stuff, your post is not going to come out the way you want it to.

If you want to split up a quote and insert your replies, type [/QUOTE] where you want the quote to end. Then make sure you type [QUOTE] at the start of the next paragraph.

That way splits up one quote into a number of lines, and you can insert your replies.

To quote without using the "Reply with Quote" function, just click on the speech- bubble icon in the top line of your posting box

Then the 2 quote boxes appear [ QUOTE ] and [/QUOTE].

The text to be quoted can be pasted between the two bracketed boxes.

Make sure that you don't accidentally alter the square brackets, because they tell the system to format the enclosed section as a quote.

Another was of doing it is to copy and paste into your posting box whatever you want to quote from someone else's post. Next highlight it all, (drag mouse across the text and it highlights in blue) then click on the speech bubble icon towards the top left of your posting box - and it's done.
